We all experience times, even yours truly, when it feels like life and circumstance suffocate us. We must make a conscious decision to pause, break this vicious cycle, and nip the mounting panic, fear, and stress that tries to creep in. Even as life crowds in on us, we have to carve out space enough to breathe. When challenging situations or trying times show up, our breath is our lifeline in such cases. Taking moments to breathe can lead us mindfully back to a peaceful place of calm.

Why is this so fiercely important? Life experiences have taught us that the cost of not being mindful is steep. A lack of self-awareness dulls the warning signals of stress within ourselves. Beloved, the danger of overlooking the practice of mindfulness, our thoughts become scattered, and we are unable to maintain our focus. Most importantly, when we are not mindful, we are vulnerable to losing our way and miss meaningful opportunities to show up as our best selves.
