There is a lot of conversation about the importance of self-awareness. The beauty of self-awareness is that it challenges you to give attention to yourself. How often do you take time to notice your feelings, physical sensations, reactions, habits, behaviors, and thoughts? Or, do you tend to ignore your gut feelings by pushing forward when you may need to take a break? This week has been one where I experienced a myriad of emotions. I had some highs as my niece is getting married, and then there was an overwhelming sadness as one of my dear friends transitioned. I like many; while conscious of the emotional impact of the highs and lows we experience, we may tend to keep pushing forward instead of taking a pause.
On this Fiercely Free Friday, I, without hesitation, took heed to what I teach. Being mindfully aware of what was going on within, I found the need, to be honest with myself and take a needed pause. I cannot stress enough the importance of self-awareness as it focuses on the reality of your behavior and not on the story you tell yourself. When we permit ourselves to identify with our emotions, we minimize stress and anxiety and are empowered to express ourselves in healthier ways. Grateful that I listened to the inner voice of wisdom that reminded me to be still.
