Fiercely Free Friday

In a recent interview, I was asked, 'how do you define a queen who defies the odds.' The late poet, Queen Maya Angelou, is quoted as 'You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. It may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.' I smiled and responded with the imagery of a diamond buried beneath rocks that, despite the difficulties, press through the dirt, shouting, 'Still I rise!' Inevitably, we face change every day of our lives, which can impact our lives differently. How we make sense of it will affect how we process it and respond innovatively and creatively.

As you ponder on being a woman, a diamond in the rough, what are some of the challenges or experiences that have created teachable moments for you? I'm talking about those moments that became very instrumental in shaping a woman fiercely walking in the steps orchestrated by the Master! I mean moments, when you look back, what you thought, would surely break you God used to cultivate you. These are the moments that cause you not merely to lift your hands in worship or sing your favorite song. Instead, you are ushered into a lifestyle of walking out YOUR God-given purpose with powerful praise of victory that echoes, 'I was created for this!'

My dear Queens, as you go about your day, take a moment to reflect on how God uses some of the most difficult challenges for you to live out your God-given assignment. As you pursue this week, do so with confident hope that God fulfills the fierce promises He assigns you. Be encouraged as the best is yet to come!
